The challenge
Some stories tell themselves. The liberation of the Netherlands in 1945 is celebrated in a spectacular and impressive way every year on May 5th, on the Amstel River in Amsterdam. For 27 years and editions, IDTV+ put together a program in collaboration with the National Committee for 4 and 5 May, with an annually changing orchestra and various artists.
The solution
A May 5th-concert that reaches as many people as possible through music, song and dance and where everyone feels welcome to celebrate freedom together. Each year, the event has a new, topical theme, which calls for a special program and fitting artists. After two years of organizing special corona editions in Carré theatre with live broadcasts, the 2022 concert took place on the Amstel once again.
The result
Like every year, the May 5th-concert is well attended by people on boats and along the waterfront. The event is also televised live by NOS on NPO 1, and attracts many viewers. For example, the 2021 edition attracted 1,300,000 viewers.
